3 heat-free summer style ideas

When the temperature rises, the last thing you want to be doing is heat styling your hair – particularly if it’s likely to just wilt or frizz up five minutes later. So…how to stay chic when the sun is shining? We’ve rounded up some easy ideas that will take you from beach to bar and beyond!

Mermaid waves

A Summer favourite, mermaid waves are ideal for hair that’s shoulder length or longer – mainly because the easiest way to achieve them isby first securing the hair in a couple of braids. This makes it an ideal day tonight look – wear plaits by the pool, then unravel in time for sundowners! We loved this look on Sienna Miller and you can up the boho vibe by weaving in a few tiny plaits around the face to break up the waves. I like to use a products uch at L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert [Metal Detox]Anti-metal High Protection Cream through damp hair to protect from UV damage and help add gentle definition to the hair.

Wet look

Suitable for virtually all hair types and lengths, wet look hair was huge on the runway this season and we’ve seen celebrities includingKim Kardashian, Rita Ora and Hailey Bieber trying the look. Chic, sophisticated and so simple to achieve, it’s the perfect summer hair trend. I like to prep wet hair with a generous dollop of mousse, then use a comb to work hair into place. Slicking back from the face looks ultra-modern or try a precise parting with hair tucked behind the ears. Use a few drops of hair oil to go over the surface over the style, slicking down strays and adding that all-important glass-like finish.

Top knot

An effortless-looking topknot is perfect for keeping your neck cool and showing off bare skin. We love Tyla’s take on the trend, with tendrils falling loose to frame the face. The key to a long-lasting updo lies in the prep, and you’re best working with hair that isn’t freshly washed as it tends to have more ‘grip.’ Use a brush and your hands to coax hair up away from the nape, securing at the crown with a covered band, then tease the hair gently to encourage volume and movement. Add grips as needed to keep sections in place but try not to overthink it – the style should look as though it took seconds to achieve, not hours!
